Bringing Old Flooring Back to Life

On this blog, our passion is old flooring. We love nothing more than seeing an old floor restored so it looks as good as new. We aren't experts when it comes to this subject but we have been watching hours and hours of YouTube videos and reading tonnes of articles. We have even tried out some of the methods and we have had some great results. We will be looking at how to restore timber flooring, how to remove stains from carpets, and how to work with damaged paving stones. We hope you enjoy reading the articles you find here. Thank you.

Benefits of Vinyl Plank Flooring for a Home

While timber flooring evokes a delightful warm aesthetic in a home, it doesn't fare well in all rooms, especially in kitchens and bathrooms. Wood can suffer when exposed to humidity, temperature changes and water. However, vinyl planks won't degenerate in the same way. Consider the following more specific benefits of vinyl boards.

Realistically Mimics Timber

Vinyl planks realistically mimic timber, but you won't have to deal with all the problems of wood. Vinyl floors consist of several layers. First, a backing is covered in a solid vinyl core. Then, on top of that is a thin layer of vinyl impregnated with a photo of timber, which is covered with a protective wear layer that minimises dents and scratches. Thus, vinyl planks look so authentic because they exhibit a snapshot of natural wood using advanced technology.

To create different hues and tones, manufacturers simply photograph diverse timber species. Thus, you can install vinyl planks in various hues like blonde, tan, auburn and honey shades. Additionally, the planks are available in different proportions: wide, narrow, short and long. Use lighter tones to make a room feel larger and more spacious, and install deeper colours to create a sense of intimacy and warmth.

Pleasantly Soft

Some flooring like timber and stone can be hard to walk on. However, vinyl planks offer softer flooring, which is easy to traverse over. If you're wandering around the kitchen preparing food, your legs will suffer less fatigue on softer vinyl. Additionally, if someone accidentally drops your favourite mug or plate, it will be less likely to shatter into hundreds of pieces. Kids also benefit from vinyl as they won't feel so much pain if they fall over.

Water-Resistant and Easy Upkeep

One of vinyl's best attributes is its water-proof powers. You can lay this flooring in your kitchen, bathroom and laundry without problems like rotting, warping or mould infestation, which can affect solid wood. To care for your vinyl floor, sweep, vacuum or damp mop it as needed to prevent dirt ingraining into the planks. Vinyl can scratch, so avoid stiff scrubbing brushes. Additionally, put felt-protectors under heavy furniture legs, and be careful when shifting furniture not to scuff the floor.

Installation Options

Vinyl planks allow different installation options. You can purchase self-sticking planks, which are great for a DIY project. Other vinyl planks require adhesive, and you might get a better result if you hire professional contractors to lay the flooring.
